Artist Judy Gilman To Be Honored by Longwood Center For Visual Arts
Judy Gilman will be honored by Longwood University for her gifts to the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts at a reception on August 28th. The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts (LCVA) is the premiere collection of contemporary Virginia artists’ work. Elizabeth Thompson Colleary, noted art historian and Edward Hopper scholar will speak at the reception. It will be at 5 PM on August 28th in the Blackwell Ballroom of the Maugons Alumni Center at Longwood University, Farmville Virginia.
Judy Gilman has had work accepted in a juried show at MBA Montgomery Bell Academy. It is in the top 10 College prep boys' schools in the country. Her grandson Matthew Remke is a senior there. The opening will be September 13th and the show will run until September 27th. Judy will be at the opening.
Judy wrote a book commissioned by her Father J. Harwood Cochrane at age 100 years. Since he has outlived his contemporaries, it was a 2 year challenge. To find old enough and still mentally capable ‘cousins’ lead to meeting many new relatives. ‘A Knibb Family Story’ was well received and recommended to be sent to several institutions. It is at The Goochland Historical Society. It will go to the VHS Virginia Historical Society and VMFA The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
Judy is currently working to finish 6 - 8 new paintings.
