Another wet, woodland favorite, the Southern Magnolia can grow to ninety feet high. It is covered with large, fragrant, saucer white blooms in June. It was painted in the fall phase of of a pink cone with many seeds that pop open to disperse. The original gouache painting on English linen record paper is in the permanent collection of Longwood University, Farmville, VA. This is Virginia’s premier collection for contemporary art. The Spring 2015 issue of "Our Town" published by Longwood University featured this work in an article titled "Buried Treasure" by Beth Cope: Link to Article.
