This wild fruit of the Mid-Atlantic states is a favorite of the opossums in the Fall after the frosts which sweeten their taste. This fruit is also a favorite for making Persimmon Pudding which was very popular with our ancestors. The original gouache painting is in the Head Mistress’ parlor in the permanent collection of St. Catherine’s School, Richmond, VA. Mrs. Gilman is a graduate of that school.
